Drifting from Tokyo to L.A.

"I wonder if you know, how they live in Tokyo!
If you see it, then you mean it!
Then you know you have to go!
Fast and furious (Drift, Drift, Drift)
Fast and furious (Drift, Drift, Drift)"

This is a SPORT where drivers slide sideways around tracks to look cool! Click this link to watch clip on YAHOO! Ride along with this guy and catch the drift! if you prefer text, here's some Underground news

My first contact with this drift stuff started with the movie Fast and Furious and the sequel; to me it was just another Hollywood production with hot cars and racers... After that out of nowhere, pop Tokyo Drift, suddenly the whole idea of this drift just changed. I mean, instead of the usual 'kwai lo' culture, or west to east influence, this hit upon me, like 'hey this is something Asian are pretty good at!' This reminds me of something i learn in Uni. the concept of Core and Periphery. hehe. i will add on to that soon.
Basically, there's a flow or system in this world, you can apply the C&P concept to explain why certain cultures dominantly comes from West (the core) to East (the periphery) or North (the core) to South (the periphery). [Imagine a spider WEB, where it has a core and spread out to many peripheries.]
For example, if you look at the patterns of the world, from the West you can take the Hollywood culture which basically has mass appeal on East side of the world, then you can take Japan situated up North, with their culture it also appeals to the South side of the world. Now the Core & Periphery stuff are contested because it is TOO GENERAL to just say the cultural dominance is one sided from the West and the North. Instead, in this current century, it is said, and evidently so, East and the South side are gradually picking up, instead of being the Periphery, they can now be the Core, simpler terms is said that the cultures that has never been embraced before is now getting into the 'pop zone', the mass appeal zone. Anyway, these are one of those things you'll learn in mass communication studies. hehe.

Now, Tokyo, the name itself is like a brand associated with trends to die for, it make this whole drifting business seems entirely exciting and engaging, despite the name Fast & Furious, Tokyo Drift the movie wins my attention hands down. :)
