firstly, this has nothing to do with my profession.
its purely because i feel bad that my dad doesnt enjoy
the programmes on terrestrial TV anymore!
we dont subscribe to astro, because we're only home
from abt 730pm onwards, and we dont watch late show anyway,
and its redundant for us to subscribe and they monopoly the market,
we really hope to see some competition soon,
BUT all these irritating terrestrial tv programmers in malaysia,
is starting to turn us off, they have such HORRIBLY CHEAP taste,
i think we might just SUCCUMB to astro's temptation of its channels variety.....
maybe my dad belongs to a niche demographic?? thats why???
but i really dont think so, he watch RTM 1 for documentary/historical show,
he watches RTM 2, for talk shows in both english and mandarin,
he watches TV3, for majalah tiga and english films,
he watches, ntv7, when they first started out, he loves survivor and guiness world records,
and the edisi siasat series, featuring Wan Kamaruddin,
later he tunes into 8tv for the travel show, tv series, imported chinese variety show,
those were happy times for him, he'd sit there the whole evening after dinner and news,
and watch about 2 - 3 hours of tv, before happily going to bed...
BUT now, it was one of the thursday evening, after news at 8pm,
he continues to sit in the living room browsing our local channels,
RTM 1, RTM 2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV, TV9...and again and again...
he said out loud to no one in particular,
cos i was using the comp and not watching tv with him,
there's NOTHING enjoyable - dad says, and he sounded angry.
i tried helping him by checking out the tv schedule,
i was.....shocked....to see the ABHORRRRIINNGG schedule
these are not even NEW DRAMA series,
it was something that makes you want to turn off the TV,
and boycott all tv programmes if you could!
but we cant, we live in the city, and to my dad,
tv is like the window to the world,
he wants to learn abt the weird species in south america,
he wants to watch international reality shows & admire the production skills,
he wants to watch QUALITY programming, that is useful to him
NOT SOME shit old drama about girl likes boys,
if its well made, my dad will watch it, but 2 mins into the show,
he will start complaining abt the stupidity of the show,
switch channel, some stupid shitty local reality show,
with stupid shitty talents, my dad just change the channel again,
and it goes on and on, less than 1omins, he decided to go to bed.
it was only about 915pm that evening, i feel sorry for him.
terrestrial tv programmers, CAN YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS??
not all should be astro convert, thats such a boring tv nation,
come on, more spice in your channe, make us spoilt for GOOD CHOICES!!!!

Are you guys blind? do you not read ANY of the newspapers?
there are new shows every single day on ntv7, be it in english, mandarin, or bm. edisi siasat is still on, so is siasat mandarin. there are new US shows that they have even before astro started showing it.
yes, ntv7 has been ahead of astro in a lot of programmes since the past few years.
their new English investigative reporting drama, Frontpage, will air sept 7, every sunday at 9:45 pm.
If you read The Star in the past week, you would know all about it. It was even on the front cover of the newspaper, with articles EVERY SINGLE DAY -- so if you still don't have a single clue on what shows are new, you REALLY are living in a cave and TV is your ONLY WINDOW to the world.
And even then, there are nonstop promos on TV on new shows.
You sure you/your dad is paying real attention or just simply complaining for the fun of it, because it's just so convenient to blame the local stations?
and if you're still clueless after reading this, surf to ntv7.com.my and click on Catch Up TV. IT shows all the on-going and recently passed shows on ntv7, where you can watch online and get a sampling of what it is.
And if you still think that Terrestrial TV sucks in Malaysia, then I don't think ntv7 for example needs audiences like you because their target market is "smart, discerning urbanites" and by whining like kid without doing proper research, you wouldn't fall into the "smart & discerning" category anyway.
thank you very much! charmed to have you read that long post and leave a msg here as anonymous, you should speak up though. :)
look forward to frontpage~ 945pm is kinda late, but can try lor.
yeah, ur right, TV is really my only window to the world, im pretty slow and not up to the latest trends, and i hardly read newspaper cos its so wordy.~~
no la, we're not complaining just for the fun of it, just a bit disappointed, we dont have enough money at home for high performance broadband thus no catch up TV, also, my dad is still beginning to learn abt internet, not sure abt how he'd enjoy internet tv though..
but hey thanks. dont be anonymous, cos its um....hm...its kinda cowardy.
