let me share with you the WORDS i learn in Bali.... :)

our cab driver name is Ketut, i was curious,
cos Ketut sounds like Kentut
(Kentut is FART in Malay language)
Ketut explains: it means child No.4 in the family.
and there are thousands of Ketut in Bali!
i was so amused!!! so i proceed to ask him more lor!
im child No.1 so i am .... WAYAN
(sounds like Wayang, Film in Malay!!! so artsy fartsy)
some results here i googled to confirm about the names!

Wayan, Putu, Gede for 1st born male child
Wayan, Putu, Iluh for 1st born female child
Made, Kadek, Nengah for 2nd born child.

The 5th born reverts back to the list for 1st born children

the massage lady name was Putu, so she was No.1
the massage lady for connie was Nyoman, she was No.3,
the cab driver that sends us to the wedding venue is Wayan,
nearly EVERYONE we met uses the name above!!!

I was at the memorial site of the bali bombings, where they had the names of all the people that had died in the bombings.
It was seperated by nationality - Brits, Australians, Dutch. When it came to Indonesians - there were Putu, Gedes, Wayans, Komangs..
It saddened me, because suddenly, you know a little bit about these people. You know that they had siblings, if they were male or female, and whether they are the 1 or 5th child in the family?
They weren't just strangers you know nothing about.
