Past & Present 2 - IDOLS leads the way.

THESE are SIGNIFICANT.
so significant that i had a really hard time
to decide whether to throw or to give these away!
i guess no one likes The Moffatts anymore do they?
They ruled my life, my taste in music, guys,
pictures, colors, dream profession,
language especially, cos i was a Chinese-Edu kid,
so i had to work extra hard to understand
what the hell are they talking abt in these mags,
i guess this is really the basis of why i fervently
aims to improve my english.... its EVERYTHING!
and it was SCARY but i think its purely a coincident
that my favorite member happened to be Scott,
its a common name aint it in Canada (?_?)
freaky, but i laugh and stash this away.
I feel like a library or something, *** SNEEZES!
I figure I can auction these away to collectors too,
but decide that the music scene is changing so swiftly,
these may not be valuable to anyone anymore,
OK...this is freaky, this is my fav guy from the group 5ive,
his name is Scott too..... this is wayyyy too scary.
BOYBANDS - MY RANKING
1. Westlife
2. 5ive
3. 911
4. 98 Degrees
5. the rest of the boybands in the world
Do you know? these magazines RULED my life from
13 to my college years? can you imagine the amount of
allowance / angpows / part time cash spent on these?
AND this is the MOST EXPENSIVE of that LOT!
I always suffered that big pinch when i pay for it
but i know inside there are lots of
pin-ups / gossips / interviews / lyrics / more pictures
of everyone they i idolize..... LOL~~
yeah and im the kind who scream
when i see a good picture,
(i still do that, dont i??? hahaha)
This is the FIRST EVER concert i attend!
I was 15 years old, i was BEGGING MY DAD,
to let me stay at my friends place so
we could go see The Moffatts together!
I beg, i cried, i wrote a long letter, i wish,
i save RM90 for the tickets and i did
everything i possibly could so he'd let me go.
cos my mom couldnt handle me anymore!
EVENTUALLY, it was 12am when my dad came home,
my eyes were still red and bulgy from crying every night,
he finally said yes, and gave me more pocket money,
and the next morning, i skip school, (@_@)
so i could go to the Concorde Hotel in Shah Alam,
just so we can catch a glimpse (more like STALK)
our favoriteeeee boyband!!!!~~~
it made me feel like the luckiest person on earth
to see them performing LIVE!!!~~ and to sing
along every song and jump and scream
and NO i did not cry, and just hug everyone
after the concert ends, I LOVE THE MOFFATTS!
Suddenly i was 17 & 18 and i no longer go so crazy
about any boybands or idols or whatever....
until I saw this picture in a chinese magazine,
i must emphasize that i HARDLY look at chinese mags,
thats why I can even remember who showed it to me!!!!!
it was Caren, Mandy & Felice, we were all 17 back then.
I asked Caren, pointing at the guy in the picture
"Who is this? Looks amazing!"
"Dont you know? He is Edison Chen!"
"What does he do? actor?"
"Yeah, he was in the latest Gen-Y-Cops"
"wah......is it good?the movie? can he act?"
Caren rolled her eyes "dont u even watch movies?"
"er no.... NOT those stupid movies from HK anyway!!!"
"well, this is different, its action packed, u'll like it"
"so he speaks cantonese too? he doesnt look very canton to me"
"i think he's from Canada, and was spotted while in HK,
he speaks canton in a weird accented way"
"SEEEEEE i knewww it!!!" I exclaimed,
"if this guy were any other HK actor,
i wouldnt even asked you!!! i just knew his DIFFERENT!"
(@_@) so thats how i know EDC.
and thats why, i fuggin~ hate it when ppl judge me
"why do u like edison chen?"
well, i cant possibly just tell them
"i knew he was different the moment i saw his face"
cos it sounds f***ing shallow, right?
there are somethings u just cant explain
but it will all fall into place and its PERFECT.
and do you know why I chose Media Studies
when I have to decide a major in college?
its all thanks to Edison Chen too!
Yes, he was the basis of my course selection,
i remember counting the years,
"to spend 4 years to get education,
2 years working experience
and I should be ready to go work for EDC"
i keep this in my head throughout my years in college,
i myself know it sounds SUPER SILLY,
but you know what, if it keeps me going,
why should i IGNORE it?
i sincerely thank my family, my friends,
BL AND Edison Chen
for my good grades during my convocation,
it felt like a chapter was complete when i receive my scroll on stage.
thank you so much!
not like EDC will ever know this, but isnt it amazing?!
someone i dont even know can make me do amazing things!
just cos the first time i saw him i thought he's amazing too!
most mags are contributions from friends,
especially EdmundTan, gave me tons of chinese mags,
and ArielChong too (sometimes), cos she likes EDC too,
i think i just might be able to WRITE a LONG essay
on why i like edison chen, hahaha!!!~
And of cos, Jien,
our Malaysian Idol host
was there briefly to keep me thinking
about a profession in media industry.
College proove to be one of the most fruitful years,
the fact that i like EDC = desire to work with EDC
and so, it all begans with my first volunteer work
with a local event organizer company
in a Music Award Ceremony, in Genting Highlands
it featured soooo many chinese superstars,
from Aaron Kwok, Coco Lee, Lee Hom, David Tao, SHE etc
but my main aim was bcos EDC was there, hehehe..I also discovered some of my bestest friends there ever,
I mean, to spend day and night, working tirelessly,
these friends were those who motivated me,
by staying supportive, and teasing me abt Edison,
but i love them all. i really do.
and this volunteer / part time venture
went on for the next 4 years,
covering sooo many concerts / events
to see Jay Chow, Jolin Tsai, MayDay,
FIR, Energy, Elva and many more idols of the lot,
i REALLY lost count! The thing is, idols never seemed to die,
its a phase in my life, from The Moffatts to Boybands,
and that drastic change to EDC, including now,
the top chinese rockband MayDay,
I began to read more chinese books,
cos i've 'devoured' more time to read english mags,
than any other stuff, so i guess Mayday ASHIN came
at the time where i learn to appreciate the
chinese language... honestly, it was then,
i spend every evening in the college library,
searching for books that they read too.
and then a funny thing happen,
i watch a Korean Drama "Full House"
and i think this tall lad with small eyes
is really one of a kind entertainer!
yeah, he is also the last of all the idols
that i've ever look up to,
and i said to myself
and then like a chapter of my life complete
i feel good about all of them,
they have all been such positive influence in my life!
