it was a book recommended by my colleague in Facebook,the title was super intriguing, peeing in the bush,
im not a guy, i cant aim like they do,
i was wondering what in the world was she going on about?
and also intrigued by the fact that she's Malaysian,
and honestly i DO NOT remember reading any
Malaysian authored adventure book, YET.
so i really really wanna get it.
being very kiasu in purchasing a book i may not enjoy,
i googled and cant seem to find a lot related to it back then,
try googling on IMAGE with the book title,
see what you get and you know what i mean.
STILL i know i must get it, maybe because i've been
DREAMING ABOUT AFRICA for the longest time,
and South America..... SCOTTY we gotta go there pls!!!
a whole host of isolated places rest of the world la
okay stop dreaming and get your act together (my other voice)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
my point is i cant seem to finish 'Out of Africa' by Karen Bilxen,
since i bought it with me to UK for my LJMU days in 2006!
its just something about angmoh's perspective
that i dont really quite get it or even enjoy reading,
too much angmoh perspective makes me very pening,
besides it doesnt connect with me in a way cos, Out of Africa
was about Bilxen, living in Kenya managing a coffee plantation,
yeah its very deep definitely cos she talks about the
inner depths of the culture that she's dealing with,
the rituals, the practices, and its awesome cos u get really
thirsty just hearing her describing about the heat,
i tried, really hard to finish it, but im at page 191 only. :(
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back to peeing in the bush, i finish it in a record 10days,
i know i know cos im a super slow reader,
but thanks also to the CNY holidays,
i can lie on the bed and read until i sleep,
wake up read until its angpow time,
and read and sleep again until my next read.
sometimes i get so exasperated cos its so MALAYSIAN,
like, come on, dont be so touristy can or not,
but then i laugh again at my silly thought
cos thats maybe how i would react if i have to
walk out into the wild bush, an open space,
dig a hole, do my business, burn my toilet paper,
and cover the hole back again like the cat, its the
'cannot compare/judge people until you experience it urself'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i would say the book is a bit too short when i finish it,
Africa in one month seem so short now!
and i only have like 14 days annual leave, for any trip,
wah lao weh, how to submit a 90 days leave to boss?
anyway, i was hoping to see some pictures, even tho
the author did paint some vivid pictures with her words,
i find that really amazing in selected chapters esp,
i like the risk she took, even tho it sound so life threatening,
but if NOTHING goes wrong on any trip, esp for a book,
haha, not very memorable to share kan?
not like i hope for everything to go wrong on a trip la.
its like a war scar meant something more than just saying
you were in a war without any scar, get what i mean?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And to convince you to take it up,
for an adventure in your armchair, lazy bums!
this is EXACTLY how i would say it to you,
i just googled it too, hehe,
its a quote from Adeline in NST -
on travel in an offbeat, funny and engaging manner."
