Day 3: Maligne Canyon Tour (IN THE DARK!)

For only $50 with the Overlander Travels & Tours,
we signed up for a 3 hour, 6 -9pm tour
at the famous Maligne Canyon.
Yeah, u can still do it without a guide,
but it better be daytime AND preferably SUMMER!

the travel agency provide the cleats, wetboots & headlamp,
all you need is to DRESS WARM, like 3 pants,
3 tops + jacket, neck warmers,
cotton gloves AND big winter gloves

its a bit freaky for me, cos im afraid of the dark,
keep imagining things will pounce on me somehow,
and it is eeriely quiet, at 6pm that evening!

this is where our guide Chris is very important,
walking off trail, not good by yourself!
the canyon basically sounds very menacing,
Maligne.....haha, but its a popular tourist spot,
for hiking/trekking and beautiful rivers in the summer!

QUESTION
"how thick does the ice have to be for a person
to stand on it?"
ANSWER
"2 inches!!!!"
for a truck, only 6 inches. imagine that!

walking on the frozen riverbed was nerve wrecking,
we walked exactly where Chris walked,
and its super slippery!!!

yeah right on this SPOT!!!!!!!!! river flowing!

But it was worth it, a really amazing sight!
this is a frozen mini waterfall!~

it feels like the water flow couldnt stop
on time before the winter arrives and froze
them all in a blink of an eye

its intriguing what lies behind the mini fall,
our guide told us that this is pretty frozen up,
sometimes he could even take tours INTO
where Scott is peering in right now!

its not very clear, but the echo is deep and hollow

from other perspective, the side, and the top

the walls of the canyon

our guide at the last stop - Angel Falls -
not to be mistaken with the other natural wonder
Angel Falls in Venezueala

its a much larger waterfall,
and apparently its considered the 1st level (easy)
for ice climbers!

ice climbers, i wonder how they climb on these ice?

i wonder if its like the ice climber video game,
where they will knock on the ice & (instead of breaking it)
they'll nail some kind of hook on it, to pull themselves up
with a rope or something?

anyway this is how i FEEL after a long tour,
Frost all over, frost forms when moist air
(such as my sweat/breath) gets in contact
with a colder surface, this is fun concept!
i also saw some trees, FROST, pics later.

then we ordered pizza, and chill out in the warm room.
